World Series Final Game Attracts 51 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a combined over 50 million watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball stated this marks the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game drew 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and the network’s strongest postseason performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 various tongues.
