The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video soon, and fan speculation has been rampant.
Season 1 introduces a large cast of personalities residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds with musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator stated earlier this year. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 moves, and how much of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people make a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
